Doha: Hamas has expressed willingness to release additional hostages under a newly proposed Gaza ceasefire agreement in exchange for a 60-day truce and the release of Palestinian prisoners by Israel.
According to BBC, a senior Palestinian official said that Hamas is prepared to release nine hostages if Israel agrees to the terms, which also include daily humanitarian aid deliveries and medical evacuations.
According to the official, the proposed deal would allow 400 aid trucks to enter Gaza each day, and patients in need of medical treatment would be permitted to leave the territory. In return, Israel is demanding proof of life for the hostages and detailed information about their condition.
The latest round of negotiations began Saturday in Doha, mediated by U.S. and Qatari officials. So far, Israel has not publicly responded to the proposal. Prior to the talks, however, Israeli officials stated they would not withdraw troops from Gaza nor guarantee an end to military operations.
The talks come at a time when the Israeli military has launched a large-scale offensive across multiple areas in Gaza, claiming it aims to "defeat Hamas."
In a statement released on its official X (formerly Twitter) account, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) said they would not halt operations until Hamas no longer poses a threat and all hostages are returned.
On Saturday, the IDF claimed it had struck more than 150 "terror targets" in the Gaza Strip over the previous 24 hours.
